Google Nexus One Review

The Nexus One came out last week and the reviews have all been pretty nerdy.  It is a beautifully designed phone, thats for sure, but how functional is it?  Here is a review from Uncrate that is a little more non techie and gives a better grasp of the pros and cons of the phone.

Yves Behar Designs One Laptop per Child Tablet

Check out the newest coolest design from Yves Behar for the One Laptop per Child program via Core 77.  It seems to consist of a tablet with a plastic screen that do everything from touch screen keyboards to games to taking pictures to reading books, all for $75.  Draw back is that it won’t be available until 2012…

The End Of An Era For I.D.

For the last 55 years I.D. Magazine has been the taste maker of design.  It has been the go-to magazine to find everything you were searching for and find out everything you wanted to know about Design.  Sadly, we must now find another source as I.D. is closing.  Why did it close?  The recession is obviously one reason and I’m sure the growing number of closing publications has had an effect on its industry.  I’m certain there are a number of opinions and theories out there and here is one from Cliff Kuang at Fast Company.  Who is going to be the next I.D.?  I hope to find out soon…

Marc Newson’s Design for Ford

Here is a cool post from Curated about Marc Newson’s For 021C which he designed in 1999 and never got produced.  I really like its simple and clean design even though it is very toy like.  Maybe they should finally consider getting some built and testing out the market!  If not now then when?

Here is a great video of Alberto Allesi by way of Cool Hunting. I love the way that design can lead to music!  Enjoy.

Objectified by Gary Hustwit

“good design is as little design as possible” – Dieter Rams

How does design really affect us?  That is an important question that Gary Hustwit is trying to answer in his new documentary Objectified.  Hustwit, who directed the acclaimed Helvetica, interviews some of the top curators and designers in the design world including Apple’s Jonathan Ives, Marc Newson, Alice Rawsthorn from the IHT, Paola Antonelli from the MoMA and Dieter Rams, the former design director for Braun. Have a look at the trailer and click on the link below for a review from the NYT.
