Renault’s New Electric Car

I love Renault…always have and always wondered why they never came to this side of the pond.  Have a look at their new electric concept car the Dezir.  More pics here.  Below a brief description from the Renault site and official video after the break:

DeZir is powered by an electric motor mounted in a mid-rear position to optimize weight distribution over the front and rear wheels. The vertically-mounted 24kW/h lithium-ion battery is located behind the benchseat and provides the car with a range of 160km.

In order to optimise range and dynamic performance, Renault Design’s technical teams have kept DeZir’s weight to a minimum: its body is made from Kevlar, while its tubular steel frame is similar to
that employed for Mégane Trophy race car.

DeZir’s suspension also shares certain features with that of Mégane Trophy – including a double wishbone arrangement – to deliver a particularly high standard of handling precision.

Miami Architecture

As promised (sorry its a little late) her are some pics of some of the architecture I saw in Miami back in December.  Some of these projects look like they are going to end up beautifully.  Most are projects still under construction except for the Icon Brickell by Philippe Starck and Yoo.  See below or for more check out my web album:

Snow Mag: New Fav…

I recently came upon this site and wanted to share.  For those who know me, you already know that I spent a year in Tokyo a while back so it may not be a surprise that anything that combines design and Japan is something I’m going to be a fan of.  In this case though, what I particularly like is how its curated.  Don’t be surprised to see me reference the site a couple of times in the near future…in the meantime check it out for yourself:  Snow Magazine.

Google Nexus One Review

The Nexus One came out last week and the reviews have all been pretty nerdy.  It is a beautifully designed phone, thats for sure, but how functional is it?  Here is a review from Uncrate that is a little more non techie and gives a better grasp of the pros and cons of the phone.

Louis Vuitton Art, Fashion and Architecture

Happy New Year!!!  For my first post of the year, have a look at the Louis Vuitton Art, Fashion and Architecture book by way of our friends at Cool Hunting.  Coincidentally, I saw the book at a friend’s the other night for dinner and loved it.  I guess what I love is not the book in question which is definitely worth purchasing but more the fact that LV has had all of these collaborations over the years.  I have always been a proponent of the intermingling of  the luxury world and the arts and so as you can imagine this is totally up my alley.

The word collaboration has come up a lot recently in my work.  The idea that creatives can come together and make something truly spectacular is to me something very special.  It shows a lack of ego and an open mindedness that says that anything is possible, all we have to do is start the conversation and who knows where we can end up.

This is a great book, and not only because of the content but of the message it sends.  To get a copy head over to amazon.

Check out the newest coolest design from Yves Behar for the One Laptop per Child program via Core 77.  It seems to consist of a tablet with a plastic screen that do everything from touch screen keyboards to games to taking pictures to reading books, all for $75.  Draw back is that it won’t be available until 2012…
