The End Of An Era For I.D.

For the last 55 years I.D. Magazine has been the taste maker of design.  It has been the go-to magazine to find everything you were searching for and find out everything you wanted to know about Design.  Sadly, we must now find another source as I.D. is closing.  Why did it close?  The recession is obviously one reason and I’m sure the growing number of closing publications has had an effect on its industry.  I’m certain there are a number of opinions and theories out there and here is one from Cliff Kuang at Fast Company.  Who is going to be the next I.D.?  I hope to find out soon…

From the pavillion web site

Here is a new kind of “intervention” by Chinese artist Ai Weiwei for the Mies Van der Rohe pavilion in Barcelona.  One thing that I think most directors of historic sites will tell you is that coming up with fresh programming is extremely challenging.  That said, this looks pretty interesting.

L.A. Opera Gets Bailed Out By County

Here is an unusual piece of news.  Seems like the L.A. Opera is being bailed out by L.A. County.  Fearing that it would cause a major chain reaction within the arts community in Los Angeles, the county voted 4 to 1 to loan the L.A. Opera $14 Million that they would have to repay in three years.  For more: LAT: L.A. Opera gets $14-million emergency loan
